Smoothed particle hydrodynamics sph is a meshless numerical method that is being developed for the study of nearshore waves and other navy needs the lagrangian nature of sph allows the modeling of wave breaking surf zones ship waves and wave structure interaction where the free surface becomes convoluted or splash occurs objectives. Smoothed particle hydrodynamics sph is a computational method used for simulating the mechanics of continuum media such as solid mechanics and fluid flows it was developed by gingold and monaghan and lucy in 1977 initially for astrophysical problems it has been used in many fields of research including astrophysics ballistics volcanology and oceanography. Smoothed particle hydrodynamics sph methods have recently been used to examine water wave motions here we apply sph to the problem of water waves impinging on a deck of an offshore platform. Smoothed particle hydrodynamics sph is becoming a useful tool for examining hydrodynamic flows that are difficult to model with other existing numerical methods such as time dependent flows
